Ramble

Edit: So, here's what's been going through my mind of late, and it's about how to approach the main character-driven arc of this damn plot. May contain some spoilers.



So, we have two characters from Earth that go to a fantasy world. They have magic from this fantasy world, and play a pivotal role in what could happen there. The two MCs are feeling way out of their element, and have to rely on others to get by for awhile. They learn two people from this fantasy world were once tasked with the same thing they were, but they skipped out on their duties and their magic went to Earth to be reborn in the two of them. From here, I could take the plot one of two ways:

1. The two Earth MCs are direct rebirths of the pair who left, minus their missing memories. As they gain magic, they regain memories up to a certain point, when they learn of past things, mistakes they made, and now feel regret. They need to undo these mistakes to help people they originally and unintentionally hurt while grappling with feelings they're re-experiencing.

2. The two MCs are their own people who hold the same magic as the pair that left the fantasy world. Over time, they begin to learn about the past of the pair as well as their own magic abilities, and realize they share a lot of their feelings (feeling used, manipulated, etc). If they wanted to, they could really mess things up for a lot of people in this world, but need to decide whether or not they should. Should they punish everyone for what a few people did?

I'm not sure which one to pick and might need a little help to gauge interest. Or are both not that great and (collective) you have something else in mind? I'm trying to more or less poke a bit of fun at the genre here and there (no, 'oh look, the MCs are suddenly good at everything and pick up on magic with no weaknesses!' like a lot of other things out there).
